They required an immersive 3D experience to function as an interactive menu which its users could use to choose maths tasks that they were to complete. The concept wasn't finalized yet, so not only did it need to be developed to run from the HOM website, but its layout, sequences and visuals needed to be planned beforehand as well.
Pre-production techniques usually utilized for animated films were used to plan the development. These such as an animatic video of the general experience which was rendered for approval, and a production pipeline planned before development began. The 3D artist who created the 3D assets was directed to develop optimised models and textures to for load efficiently in the 3D web app. To progress while the 3D assets were being developed, placeholders were used while the 3D engine was coded. The result was an immersive and unique experience which is both useful and memorable for the learners, comparable to a Nintendo game.
